The Young Composer's Camp is our newest addition to our summer camp curriculum, dedicated to music students with an interest in composing their own original music! Each day of camp we will focus on a famous composer and an important piece of music they have contributed to the world of music. Through various activities, students will learn about techniques used to compose, through the compositions we study in camp. Local composers from our community will come in to hold workshops with the children and help them learn the craft. With the help of camp counselors, children will add to their compositions each day, perfecting it as the week goes by. By the end of the week, each student will have their own completed composition and have the opportunity to perform their piece or have it performed by the camp counselors during the final performance at the Academy!
Compositions that will be studied will include works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig Van Beethoven, Robert Schumann and John Williams.
Outdoor field trips will be taken to nearby locations for lunch, recreation, and inspiration! During our final day, the group will take a trip to the nearby Red Wagon Creamery to reward their efforts with a scoop of ice cream or sherbet (included in materials cost).
It is recommended that students have a minimum of two years of music education (any instrument) to participate in the Young Composer's Camp.
