Come experience the fun of writing songs in a group setting! Students will brainstorm, write, edit, and finish songs together. Students will also study and learn well-known songs to apply learned techniques in their own songwriting. This camp covers the concepts of story-telling, poetic imagery, rhyme, meter, and basic chord progressions used in pop music. We’ll also consider songwriting as a method to process emotions and life experiences. Finished songs will be debuted at a concert for family and friends at the end of the week. Students will also have the opportunity to record their songs and have a keepsake of their camp experience!
Each day the group will also take walking field trips to picnic and have some free time. Locations include Skinner Butte Park, Hult Center, EWeb Fountain and Park Blocks on Oak. During the week, the group will take a trip to a nearby creamer to reward their efforts with a scoop of ice cream or sherbet (included in materials cost).
